Founder's Story
Every story germinates from a little idea.
Our day to day inconveniences might make for a perfect excuse to complain and yet very few of us ever think of tackling the problem. Advancements in technology and other fields frequently result from shifting the question from “Why is it like this?” to “How can I make it better?” Small, indefinite yet prominent steps have led us to numerous success stories. Ikabit has a similar tale to share. The tiny seed that became Ikabit, and ultimately Yant, germinated in a physical therapy clinic in California.
Unlike multi-faceted corporations, small businesses nearly always have a single focus; that is their identity and the source of their indescribable charm. The services they provide are personal, intimate and necessary. Diane Ornoski ran one such gentle, charming physical therapy business. It is a perfect setting in which to feel safe and calm, and to be healed. The very nature of the clinic lends itself to engaging conversation and the formation of lasting friendships between therapist and patient. What better place to feel open and at ease?
But not entirely perfect. During a thirty-minute physical therapy session with Diane, Divya Anantharaman’s treatment was interrupted eight times by business matters that required Diane’s attention. Patient confidentiality required Diane to leave the session. The situation here, while unfair towards Divya was an unavoidable one. This resulted in obvious disappointment and a tad bit of annoyance. Both the parties were helpless. However, the helplessness soon dissolved into an intense discussion of how common this persisting problem was.
Overlapping real time communication leading to a much-disorganized message relay is not an uncommon scene in today’s fast paced world. The necessity of obtaining critical information in real time is a cornerstone of every successful business. So too, however, is providing a level of service that makes the customer feel appreciated. For example, a retail clerk assisting you with a potential purchase may need to receive a walkie-talkie message. That detracts from the attention being paid to you, making you feel somewhat less valued. By the same token, ignoring the incoming communication can result in the loss of critical information.
In many circumstances, generally in larger businesses, use of radios or walkie-talkies is common and is ordinarily accepted as part of the business. However, for small to medium-size operations radios and walkie-talkies are expensive and disruptive. For physical therapy clinics like Diane’s, as well as for countless other businesses with similar concerns, could the answer lie in a communication device that is compact and affordable, but also discreet and private?
And the result of this brainstorming session was - Yant. Ikabit had found a way to not just solve Diane’s problem but also of hundreds of other businesses like hospitals, restaurants, retail/grocery stores, and many other businesses with Wi-Fi connectivity. Yant is Ikabit’s very first patented product. It fills the widespread need for a feasible, discreet, lightweight, and hands-free communication system.
So how did Yant manage this?
Yant accomplishes this by being as user-friendly and efficient as possible. The system consists of several pods that can be plugged in anywhere in a building – not unlike an air freshener. With Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, users connect to them through multiple devices, such as headsets, watches or phones. Yant’s integrated intelligent voice recognition system assists the user to keep track of incoming information from multiple sources without interrupting the ongoing personal interaction. In that way, its utility is not limited to small businesses; it can be scaled efficiently by use of Ikabit’s automated software. Information can be kept discreet and secure, then accessed when needed. Simplicity, security and sufficiency.
Ikabit exists to solve problems. We constantly push the envelope to find answers and devise solutions to the why, who, when, and how questions. Our endeavors have borne fruit. Our product has been issued a patent, and two other patents are pending. Ikabit strives for ease, innovation and creativity. Our product represents our passion to help people to communicate and share information with greater efficiency. Faced with the question “What can I do to make this better?” Ikabit’s answer will always be “We are making it better!”
